Odisha’s CM, Naveen Patnaik, took a significant step on Monday, January 01 2024 by laying the foundation stone for the long-awaited Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Project, poised to become a crucial link for the Twin Cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
Upon completion, the state administration intends to establish a convenient transportation service from Bhubaneswar Airport to Cuttack via Trisulia Square through the Metro Rail Project.
The Bhubaneswar Metro project is slated to encompass 20 stations, spanning from Bhubaneswar Airport to Trisulia Square, with a projected cost exceeding ₹6,000 CR. The entire funding for this endeavor will be sourced via loans procured by the Odisha government.
This initiative marks the most substantial investment ever made in Odisha’s infrastructure history and stands as a flagship program under CM Naveen Patnaik’s 5T initiative.
Furthermore, CM Naveen Patnaik has called for the formulation of a comprehensive master plan to extend the Metro Rail network to Khurda, Puri, and Cuttack. Notably, on November 14th of the preceding year, the cabinet greenlit the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Phase 1 of the Bhubaneswar Metro project, estimated at a cost of ₹59,293 crores, and initiated engagement with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.
